"The greatest thing about adventure is that you never know what you'll find."

Here we are! It's time to set sail! At Concarneau, the Under The Pole team is raring to go. Effervescence has reached a peak. In just a few hours, Emmanuelle and Ghislain Bardout, along with their crew, their sons Robin and Tom, and Kayak the dog, will set sail on the Why. They'll be heading for the Arctic, the Pacific, the Atlantic and Antarctica, with a team of specialists from different backgrounds on board. Among them, scientists, divers, sailors, cameramen, photographers and doctors, all ready to explore the unknown depths of the oceans.
An exciting human and scientific adventure, with the sea as a backdrop. Boldness, escapism, freedom are key values embedded in Azzaro Parfums’ DNA. So naturally, "the brand that celebrates life" has chosen to support the Under The Pole challenge through a four-year partnership, initiated in 2016 with the first preparations at sea. On May 20 th , Christian Courtin-Clarins, President of the Clarins Group Board of Directors, was there in person to wave the 12-team members good-bye.

The previous evening, he welcomed journalists and partners, eager to set foot on the Why and meet the divers, sailors, scientists, mechanics, engineers, cameramen, photographs and doctors composing an outstanding multidisciplinary team. The last hours on land were punctuated by lunch at Les Glénans, followed by a press conference, interviews and dinner at La Coquille. Until the go-ahead moment, at 3 p.m., when Under The Pole set off! Goodbye for now!

An intensive program awaits the Why team. First stop in
Arctic to study biofluorescent organisms in the ocean depths off Greenland and Alaska, and fathom how these organisms create light in an environment deprived of sunlight. Next, they'll drop anchor in French Polynesia for fifteen months. This time, deep-sea corals will be at the heart of their research, before huge hammerhead sharks and bull sharks steal the show! Stay tuned for the next episode in this exciting adventure...
