“Preparing for an expedition it is extremely important, as it is a key phase that will determine success. These preparations include material, technical, logistical, scientific, financial and, of course, personal...” Ghislain Bardout, Director of Under The Pole, tells us about two of the highlights of the preparations... before the team sets sail.
Cave diving in Rocamadour (France)

“This technical discipline remind us of polar diving on deep waters. It requires a heavy and bulky equipment, as well as a higher psychological commitment than the one for classic diving. It enables us to reach our limits quickly and to push them further so as to increase our resilience in stressful situations. It also boosts our vigilance and experience, which are essential to overcoming the challenges that await us.”
Team building at the summit, in Savoie (France)

“Spending a week with the team in the mountains shakes up our routine and allows us to get to know each other better, outside our everyday life in the workshop or office. The program includes cross-country skiing, workshops, group walks, and of course fine-tuning the expedition program and assigned roles. The team emerges closer, re-energized and in top form, ready to start 2017 and enter the home stretch of our preparations that will take us to the Arctic next summer.”
