This festive season marks the end of the first leg of the Under the Pole III expedition. They have successfully crossed the Northwest Passage. Throughout the crossing, the bonds between Ghislain Bardout, Emmanuelle Périé-Bardout, their two sons and the crew have grown stronger. The adventure worked its magic!
Navigating, diving, life on-board…it looks like they have quite a busy schedule. What's more, there are two small children in tow. Now there's a challenge the explorers of yesteryear never had to deal with! In this particular instance, having Robin and Tom there was immensely helpful. Granted, it would sometimes add to the stress – especially in foul weather – but overall, it brought the crew closer together. They became like family. The children made life special on board the WHY with their sheer delight as they discovered new things. Robin took the helm of the ship, climbed to the top of the mast and even steered the dinghy! As Tom was only 13 months old for the maiden expedition, he took his first steps while docked in Nome. Endless happy adventures shared with their parents and the rest of the crew. The children had a special bond with them. Each explorer, diver and researcher had their own way of approaching and talking to them, which gave them a richer personal experience.<br />
The Under The Pole crew hope you also have such wonderful moments with your own family. Ghislain, Emmanuelle, Robin and Tom will continue to have a great time and ring in the new year in Bonneval-sur-Arc in the Maurienne Valley surrounded by friends and family, including their husky Kayak. Wishing you the same! May 2018 be full of wonderful surprises, good cheer and new beginnings!
